Community Regeneration

(in-progress / 2024 – 2025)

Community Regeneration is a research project designed to expand my current practice through collaboration with various communities in Thamesmead. It focuses on researching local histories, collating stories and experiences, amplifying marginalised voices, and providing a platform for disseminating narratives and creating alternative archives. The project aims to document the dynamic relationship between community, architecture, and social transformation in Thamesmead, a rapidly redeveloping area.

Supported by Arts Council England, the project focuses on Thamesmead’s architecture, public spaces, and communities. The initial phase involves documenting Thamesmead’s physical environment and gathering insights from community members, local organisations, and artists. This foundation will be enriched through mentorship from cultural leaders and artists, ensuring a strong community-centred approach.

The project also focuses on sustainable knowledge-sharing by organising reading groups on regeneration and housing, along with workshops in creative coding and publishing, to encourage ongoing local collaboration. I aim to engage policy makers in the council area, involving them in the ongoing dialogues and exchanges I will organise locally.

These objectives aim to raise public awareness of Thamesmead’s evolving identity while establishing a sustainable framework for community-driven narratives, reinforcing collective identity, a sense of belonging, and active community collaboration.
