System-Figure

A series of drawings formed as an attempt to control sequences of spontaneous visual thoughts on human figure in a sequence of lines that can continue endlessly. Whether on paper, canvas or as software, System-Figure recognises the concept of failure as a fantasy, illusive and illusionary anticipation or convention in arts – and instead favours process, repetition, and improvisation as a spontaneous connection between the hand and the mind. The project received the MAN Drawing Prize in 2008 at the Royal College of Art, and was presented in many venues and galleries in the UK, Germany and the UAE. A large hand-drawn piece was exhibited at the Royal Academy of the Arts in 2010. I am grateful for all the conversations, counselling and guidance that I had received from Len Massey during the development of this project.
